Taking over an existing system

A logo on the panel is not enough to confirm access, compatibility or ownership.

Can WeTech take over a system installed by another company?+

Often, after reviewing equipment ownership, administrator and installer access, model support, programming files, licences, communication paths and the health of connected devices. Some locked or proprietary systems may require vendor cooperation or a staged replacement.

Can existing cameras, readers, fobs or alarm sensors be reused?+

Yes when they are supported, serviceable, compatible and appropriate for the target security level. Each item should be tested and recorded as retained, replaced or deferred so reuse does not become an undocumented risk.

What if the original installer disappeared or will not provide passwords?+

Gather contracts, invoices, device labels, licences, backups and any credentials the property owns. A technician can then determine whether authorized recovery, manufacturer support, defaulting or controller replacement is possible without risking a lockout.

Who should own the administrator accounts and programming backups?+

The property should receive the agreed level of administrator access, current backups and a list of vendor-held licences, secrets or subscriptions. Role-based daily accounts are safer than distributing one master credential to every manager.

Diagnosis, maintenance and migration

Troubleshoot the whole signal path before replacing the most visible device.

Why did remote camera viewing stop working?+

Common causes include a changed router or public address, failed network equipment, expired service, lost account access, outdated apps or firmware, recorder faults and incorrect time. Confirm that local recording still works before changing remote settings.

Why is an NVR powered on but not recording?+

A failed or uninitialized drive, recording schedule, full or read-only storage, camera authentication, network loss, channel licence or incorrect time can all cause missing footage. Recorder health and actual playback should be tested, not inferred from live view.

Why does a reader accept a fob but the door not open?+

The access event can be valid while the controller relay, power supply, lock, request-to-exit circuit, door alignment or cable has failed. Event logs and voltage at the opening help isolate the fault.

What routine maintenance should building security receive?+

Review backup batteries, door and egress operation, credential lists, alarm communication, camera playback and storage, time synchronization, gate safety interfaces, automatic-door operation, software support and current configuration backups on a planned schedule.

How can an old system be replaced without losing access or footage?+

Use a written cutover plan with backups, exported evidence where authorized, parallel operation, temporary credentials, resident or staff notices, test scripts and a rollback point. Remove the old system only after every approved critical path has passed commissioning.
