Three common elevator access-control designs
- A valid credential enables one shared group of controlled floors

How elevator fob or mobile access works
The user presents a fob, card, mobile app, BLE, NFC or compatible Apple Wallet credential at the elevator reader. Access control checks the person's floor group and schedule, then energizes the approved relay outputs for a limited time.
In a basic button-control design, the user still presses the enabled floor button. In destination integration, the authorized destination may be selected or confirmed through the elevator system. The available method depends on the elevator equipment and approved interface.
Visitor floor release from video intercom
A resident can see and speak with the visitor, unlock the building entrance and—where compatible—temporarily enable the resident's floor. The visitor receives only the route and time needed for the visit.
Multiple entrances, elevator banks, towers or parkade levels require careful routing. The system must know which elevator group and floor permission belong to the call; this is designed rather than assumed.
One credential from the parkade to the suite floor
The same resident identity can control the gate or parkade entrance, pedestrian doors, elevator floor and amenity rooms. Mobile, BLE, NFC and wallet credentials can coexist with RFID fobs as a physical backup.
A well-planned system gives management one move-in and move-out workflow: create or disable the person once, then apply the approved doors, gates, floors and schedules.
Floor groups, schedules and special users
Residents may receive their home floor, lobby, parkade levels and approved amenities. Commercial tenants can follow business hours. Cleaners, contractors and delivery personnel can receive limited floors and time windows. Management and emergency roles are defined separately.
Access groups should be simple enough to audit. Too many exceptions make floor permissions hard to understand and increase the risk of accidental access.
What does the elevator access log prove?
A basic system normally records that a credential was accepted or denied at an elevator reader. It may not know which button the user pressed. Exact floor-selection reporting requires button feedback, individual relay monitoring or deeper destination integration.
Even detailed logs do not prove that the named credential holder travelled alone to the floor. Tailgating, credential sharing and passengers remain operational considerations.
Why the elevator contractor must be involved
WeTech supplies and programs the access controller, reader, credential database, relay modules and approved security wiring within our scope. The elevator contractor performs or approves connections inside regulated elevator equipment, the car operating panel, hall equipment, travelling cable or destination system.
Both trades agree on relay type, timing, bank and floor mapping, service modes, recall, firefighter operation, emergency behaviour, testing and responsibility for future service.
Life safety and failure modes
Access control must never interfere with recall, firefighter operation, emergency service or elevator safety functions. The design states what floors or buttons do during power loss, access-controller failure, fire recall and elevator maintenance modes.
Security-controller batteries or network UPS equipment may support the access layer, but elevator operation and emergency power remain within the elevator and building design.
Retrofit and modernization
We inspect existing readers, controllers, relay boards, wiring, cabinets, database, floor maps and administrator access. Some Kantech, Keyscan, RBH, ICT or other systems can be modernized in phases; obsolete equipment may require replacement.
A phased project can preserve resident access while a bank changes, but the cutover sequence must be coordinated with building management and the elevator contractor.

A brand name does not imply every combination integrates directly.
