I’m Ian McLennan, treasurer of the Dorchester in White Rock. Our previous access and intercom equipment was much older and original to the building. We had key and fob access, and the intercom relied on a plug-in telephone. Residents could hear a visitor but could not see who was at the door or grant access remotely when away from the building.

With the new system, people can use a smartphone to let in a relative or trusted visitor even when they are not in the building. They can also set up temporary access for a delivery. Residents who do not want to use a smartphone can still use conventional calling, a fob or a key. It is not forced on anyone, and most people have embraced the new options.

Building access can now use a key, fob, smartphone, facial recognition or predetermined visitor access. Gate access is also available through a smartphone while existing options remain. Having multiple methods matters because every strata resident has different preferences.

WeTech was informative, came to the building to explain how the system would work and completed the installation without downtime. We felt protected throughout the transition. We have used the system for a little over a year, and it has been well received. I would highly recommend this type of upgrade to another strata with an older intercom and keys.
