
An old intercom does not automatically need a full replacement, and a low repair invoice is not automatically the better long-term decision. The useful question is whether the existing platform can still be owned, supported and operated reliably.

When repairing the old intercom makes sense
A failed display, button, power component or calling path does not automatically justify replacing every part of the building system. The fault, available programming access and the remaining platform condition should be confirmed first.

- Replacement parts and required programming access remain available
- The manufacturer or platform is still supportable
- The entrance panel, power and door release are otherwise dependable
- Existing suite calling still serves residents
- The repair does not preserve an undocumented or unsafe door condition
Signs that modernization is more practical
Recurring faults and missing system ownership often cost more operationally than the invoice shows. A phased migration can be more responsible than repeatedly extending an unsupported platform.

- Nobody has working administrator credentials or current documentation
- Resident records cannot be maintained reliably
