After the upgrade
Before & after
The original Viscount NSL intercom called a telephone inside the suite. The new Akuvox S539 lets residents see and speak with visitors through the app, while residents who prefer a regular landline can keep telephone calling.

Before & after at a glance
The everyday difference for residents, council and the property manager.
| Area | Before the upgrade | After the upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor calls | Audio-only Viscount NSL calls to a telephone inside the suite. | Akuvox S539 video calls to the app, including when residents are away and connected. |
| Residents without an app | Used the in-suite telephone to answer visitors. | Programmed landline calling, with regular RFID fobs for resident entry. |
| Deliveries and service visits | No app-based temporary keys or QR access in the old intercom setup. | Temporary delivery keys for residents and QR codes for authorized service providers. |
| Building and lobby-door access | No unified mobile-access setup across these entry points. | Facial, NFC, Bluetooth, app and fob options at the entrance; Apple Wallet and Siri options at the lobby door. |
| Parkade gate | Standalone Linear gate controller, without access history for council. | Managed gate control with app, Siri and compatible CarPlay access, plus a physical remote. |
| Access records | Council lacked building and gate access logs. | Authorized review of registered access events, assigned credentials and timestamps. |
| CCTV and entrance recording | Missing-package concerns prompted a wider security upgrade. | 12 CCTV cameras with concealed wiring, plus the intercom camera integrated into the NVR. |
| Management and unreturned fobs | The old systems lacked the new centralized remote administration. | Remote directory changes, fob programming and deletion through the management portal. |
Real installation photos
These original photos show three camera locations from the completed Abbotsford CCTV installation. WeTech concealed the wiring for a tidy finish and added the intercom camera feed to the NVR alongside the 12 CCTV cameras.

The finished mounting keeps the camera wiring concealed at the wall.

Project detail
At Nelson Manor in Central Abbotsford, WeTech Security Solutions completed a video intercom replacement, strata access-control upgrade, parkade gate-control upgrade and 12-camera CCTV installation. The project connects everyday resident convenience with the council's need to manage access and review events remotely.
The old Viscount NSL (no subscriber line) system used the building's wiring to ring telephones inside residents' suites. It provided audio communication without a visitor video image, and residents could not answer that in-suite handset when they were away.
With the Akuvox S539 and SmartPlus app, residents can receive a video call, see and speak with the visitor, and release the entrance from their phone when connected to the internet. A delivery or visitor call no longer depends on someone being inside the suite.
Residents can create temporary keys for expected deliveries, including Amazon and UPS couriers. Authorized council members can also generate QR codes for approved service providers, giving them a practical way to arrange access without handing out a permanent credential.
Residents who do not want an app had their regular landline numbers programmed into the new system. They can answer an audio call and buzz a visitor in using a familiar telephone. Physical RFID fobs remain an everyday entry option, so smartphone use is a choice.
The upgraded entrance supports configured facial recognition, NFC, Bluetooth, app unlock and RFID fobs. Facial recognition is the intercom's access feature; residents can choose another supported entry method.
At the elevator-to-parkade lobby door, the new access control supports Bluetooth, NFC, issued Apple Wallet credentials on compatible devices, app unlock and configured Siri shortcuts. A regular RFID fob provides a physical backup. This part of the project controls the lobby door between these areas.
Before the upgrade, the standalone Linear gate controller operated separately and did not provide council with access logs. The new gate controller brings the gate into the managed access system.
Residents can open the gate through the app, configured Siri commands or a compatible CarPlay setup. They were also supplied with a physical remote, keeping a straightforward alternative available when they prefer not to use their phone.
WeTech installed 12 security cameras, carefully concealing the cabling for a clean finish around the camera mounts. The photos show lobby, elevator-area and outdoor camera installations.
The S539 intercom camera was also integrated into the NVR (network video recorder). This brings the entrance intercom view into the recording system alongside the CCTV camera views, providing another view for authorized incident review.
The property manager has a cloud portal for managing the intercom, gate control, access control and integrated CCTV access. Authorized users can program and delete fobs, review access logs and change the intercom directory remotely, without visiting the building for each routine update. CCTV footage is recorded on the NVR.
Council can now review registered access events, including the assigned credential or user, the controlled entrance and the recorded time. These records help establish how an entry was authorized; they do not independently identify every person who walks through a door.
If a resident sells a unit and does not return a registered fob, management can disable that credential remotely. The building no longer needs the physical fob back to remove its authorization.
Missing packages were one of the concerns behind this upgrade. Video visitor verification, temporary delivery access, access history and recorded camera views give residents and authorized management more ways to arrange deliveries and investigate reported incidents.
The completed project gives Nelson Manor more convenient entry and clearer control over building access. Residents can arrange approved visits more easily, and management has access records and camera views to support incident review.
Direct answers
Yes. At Nelson Manor in Abbotsford, residents who preferred not to use the app had their regular landline numbers programmed into the Akuvox S539 system. They can receive audio calls and release the entrance, while app users receive video calls.
Yes. The new app lets connected residents receive video calls and release the entrance remotely. They can also create temporary keys for expected deliveries, while authorized council members can create QR access for approved service providers.
The access-control work described here is at the elevator-to-parkade lobby door. It provides mobile and RFID access at that door; this project does not describe control of elevator floor buttons.
Yes. Authorized management can disable a registered credential through the cloud portal without retrieving the physical fob, then issue or assign the approved replacement credentials.
WeTech installed 12 CCTV cameras at Nelson Manor. The Akuvox S539 intercom camera was also integrated into the network video recorder as an additional view.
Yes. WeTech assesses apartment intercom replacement, strata access control, gate control and CCTV installation in Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley. A site visit establishes the existing equipment, entry points and management requirements for the proposed upgrade.
